Fall Prep: A Trick (or a Treat) for each space in your home
It’s officially FALL.
*Cue the pumpkin spice lattes and warm colored leaves!*
We at Swoon Spaces are always excited about this new chapter of the year when there are tons of opportunities to grab the reins and take control of our goals, our minds and our homes for the final stretch of 2024. Didn’t it come too fast this year? We think so too!
Instead of our usual fall seasonal swap tips and projects (which you can read all about here in our Seasonal Swap blog), we’re going to switch things up. We are giving you 7 tricks for Fall - that’s one tip per space - that you can do TODAY to help you feel prepared for the Fall, Holiday and hosting season!
Let’s jump into this blog like it’s a pile of leaves. ;)
1. KITCHEN
When it comes to your kitchen, undoubtedly the heart of the home, we want you to be ready to cook delicious and memorable meals with (or for) your loved ones! Make sure your spice cabinet has room for those cold-weather additions (pumpkin spice, nutmeg, etc.). Use this Spice Jar and Label pack to upgrade your spices this season!
You can also create (or refresh) a coffee/ tea station to feel like you’ve got your own fancy cafe every morning right in your own home.
Now THAT feels like luxury, doesn’t it?!
2. BATHROOM
Things start to get colder (and dryer) this time of year, so it’s a great time to upgrade your skincare routine storage situation to make everything accessible! Use a multi-tiered turntable or an acrylic bin to store everything visibly and with ease. Your routine will be so much simpler and your skin will thank you!
3. COAT CLOSET
It’s that time to shift around your coat closet a bit; make sure your hats, scarves, and other winter accessories are in prime-real estate areas (the spaces that are most accessible!) Any summer weather toys, accessories, etc. can go into bins up high or be relocated to another, less accessible location for the winter months if space is tight.
4. ENTRYWAY & SHOE ZONE
Although it’s not quite time for those heavy winter boots, start to prep this area now for later! Make space for boots (winter, rain and fashion!) as well as put away sandals and any warm-weather shoes. We recommend getting a tray for those rainy (and eventually snowy) days so you don’t track water, sludge, and salt into your home.
5. LAUNDRY
‘Tis the season for wool sweaters, cashmere and scarves. That also means specialty fabrics that require different care with different products. Get ahead by setting up a system for specialty detergents, moth balls, and fabric shavers to ensure your cashmere and knits are well kept, cared-for and safe!
6. BEDROOM & PRIMARY CLOSET
Here is the predictable tip, where we recommend swapping out your summer/hot weather clothing and bring in your fall/ winter items! Especially if you are tight on wardrobe space.
Move your vacation-wear to the top of the closet and bring down those thermals, layers and heavier socks! This is also a great time to swap out lighter linens for warmer ones and swap for some fall-colored blankets and decor. If you move categories to another spot in your home, don’t forget to label the container they land in!
7. LIVING AREAS
This is where things get fun. Now is the time to get ready for the cozy weather with some fall decorations! Pull out those fall candles, pillows, and throw blankets. Set the mood for spooky (and eventually holiday) movie nights in or hosting nights with friends. Make sure your space feels like a haven for yourself and those who visit, not a chaotic storage space or drop zone.
Whether or not you’re ready for this spooky season, the shorter days, and the cooler weather, we’ve made their way here!
I hope these 7 ideas inspire you to begin this final season of the year with fresh, renewed energy and optimism. The gatherings and holiday festivities will be here before you know it, so I hope you take advantage of this time to create a cozy (and organized!) environment for yourself and your loved ones to form those long-lasting memories and enjoy those special moments together. ❤️
